RICKENBACKER RESCUE DIVE TEAM, IN ACTION.........
Last week, the newly formed Rickenbacker Rescue dive team of MCA/Guard Firemen deployed to Curacao took part in a reef clean up. Together with about 50 other SCUBA divers, tons of filth and debri, from years of abuse on a once thriving tropical reef was lifted, and brought to the surface. All involved worked hard, but we are comfortable saying the Rickenbacker boys did plenty of the "heavy lifting." As the event progressed, in water from 20 to 100'of depth, a "white out," much like a smoke filled building built up. Firemen are often more used to these kinds of things, and while a few others came up and out, we "worked the scene," until the job was done. This was good training, as recovery dives in Ohio are often with no light or visibility. Local hotels treated all divers to a nice lunch between sessions, and "all the beer you can drink." Rickenbacker stayed "on scene," with that beer, too. They soon found out that in fact, it WASN'T all we could drink. Lastly, the sponsors were so impressed with our work, before and after the drinking, they sent our bretheren home with two cases each of Amstel to continue the party elsewhere, and they could go home, as it was getting dark. I will post a few pix of our Rescue Divers, "in action."
